June 1 - June 15 - Two Weeks

English

  1. Continue to read at least 4 books a week.
  2. Complete MAMBO tasks.
  3. OUR FINAL PROJECT IN GRADE 2 :( and  :) - The Strange Creature from a Mysterious Land - The Movie!
  • Using the trailer feature in iMovie or the regular movie mode, we will be creating a movie\movie trailer about a strange creature.
  • First, you need to create the creature using a large sock. It can be any creature you can imagine. Lovely or scary!
  • Next you need to plan out your story. This will take the form of comic. Note that you do not need to put all your diologue, just the basics of what you will say and what will happen. (Also, the following is a guide. If you want to create a different story, that is just as great!)
    • Beginning: You are a researcher looking for a mysterious creature that lives in a mysterious land in which you have only read about in stories. On your way to this mysterious land there is a problem (a storm, your boat crashes, your get lost, etc... you can create an idea) and you somehow find yourself in the mysterious land.
    • Middle: You encounter two problems before you find the creature. Then when you find the creature what happens? Is it nice? Mean? You decide!
    • End: What do you do with the creature? Do you take it with you? Do you leave it alone? Do you stay in the strange land? You decide!
  • This week is mainly planning and I will show you how to use iMovie on Thursday. So make sure you show up on time for the VirtualTeacher Meeting :)
  • For the following week, after everything is planned, you will do the actual filming. Again I will help you figure this out on our next weeks VirtualTeacher Meeting, though here is a helpful Youtube video: https://youtu.be/I0PdTwf9lPI

Also, below you will find a document called "This is what I could write..." Using the picture as a guide, create a story. These will be collected and then given back to you at the end of grade 6!

Math

  1. Complete the worksheets found below for June 1 - June 15.
  2. The "Mult.6x" sheet is for the speed test in class on Thursday.
  3. If you have a deck of cards, play some of the games attached below.

-Continue playing dreambox. Wohoo!

May 25 - June 1

English

  1. Continue to read at least 4 books a week.
  2. Complete the MAMBO tasks.
  3. As students in class are finishing their fairy tale this week (as they created a rough copy using GoogleDocs and are now rewriting it) students at home are at a different stage.
  • Thus, for those who have finished, one assignment before our final one (which I will introduce to the class next week) will be a Google a mystery (such as the Loch Ness Monster...but you can chose a different one too, like Big Foot or Aliens) and create a comic strip (minimum 10 panels) about it and how you (THE GREAT DETECTIVE) solved the mystery.
    • NOTE you must both explain the mystery and how you solved it in the comic strip. The mystery itself should be the actual real story, which you have learned from your research. Only the solving portion will you be able to make up on your own.
    • Here is a website that gives a few mysteries, but you need to do some other Google researching to learn even more about it so that you are an expert detective: https://www.kidsworldfun.com/amazing-facts/ten-unsolved-mysteries-of-the-world.php
  • For those who have finished the mystery, you must find TWO books you like, or new ones you have never read before. After reading each one, you must combine the stories into one single story in which you rewrite. For example, if I read a story about a lizard and his search for toilet paper, and then another book about a girl and her encounter with three bears, you must write a new story that combines both the characters and situations.
    • If you have time, it would be great if you can add illustrations to your new conbined story, like a picture book.
    • I am not sure if anyone is at this stage yet (finished with the mystery) but I have added it here just in case.

Math

  1. Complete the worksheets found below for May 25 - June 1.
  2.  In class on Thursday at 1h10, we will continue working on our money sheets.
  3. If you have a deck of cards, play some of the games attached below.

-Continue playing dreambox. Wohoo!

Non-Compulsory Math and English Homework

Disclaimer: The following includes extra work for those who wish to do extra homework and practice at home for both English and Math areas of study. These lessons are meant to be supplemental work and are in no way compulsory. At times they will include work that is outside of what is being specifically explored in class and are therefore included for purely additional work and studies. Also, some material may be used directly within class, thus the possibility of repetition is possible (though this is not necessarily a negative issue). Feel free at any time to complete which ever part of these helpful exercise books, without the constraint of following the biweekly assigned non-compulsory homework suggestions.

*Page numbers coincide with the pdf # and not the book page numbers.
